Environmental Policy for Westover Farm Cottages and Westover
Farm Campsite
Travel during the holiday
The journey to Westover Farm will almost always be by car,
but once here we encourage reduced car use.
Our website,
www.westoverfarmcottages.co.uk , contains a section on local attractions
(with distances), to help visitors plan their stay
We provide a walking map of the local area, showing
footpaths, including the popular ½ hour walk to the beach.
A farm map is also provided, and visitors are welcome to
wander over our 150acre farm. Try to spot the wildlife, enjoy the peace and
the space, try fishing in our stream.
We provide free farm walks with the farmer. This is
supported by our Countryside Stewardship Environmental Scheme, and in addition
to looking at the cattle and farming, we also explore the beautiful country
environment and wildlife
Many visitors spend time at the cottages, the cottage
gardens, the games room and the small camp site.
At Wootton Fitzpaine there is a village playing field, open
to general public – a good place to release teenage energy
The Jurassic Link Bus runs through Charmouth, East
and West along the coast
The National Cycle Route runs through Wootton
Fitzpaine. For visitors who bring bicycles we discuss the various local routes
The Cottages
Our cottages are well insulated, with modern oil boilers,
so energy use is minimised. Visitors have control of the temperature of their
own cottage, so they can be comfortable yet environmentally responsible
Wood-burning stoves are a feature of our cottages, and we
provide two bags of free logs for each stay. Logs are from the farm, as part of
the management of hedges, trees and river banks. Extra logs can be purchased
Low energy bulbs are used, and we are looking for low
energy replacements for the kitchen spot bulbs (GU10)
Pets
We are looking at new systems of composting dog bags
Recycling
We encourage our guests to recycle, information is provided
on cottage notice boards, and this is very well supported. We provide an extra
bin in cottage kitchens to make this easier
Sourcing Locally
Where possible, we buy from local shops and businesses
